Build up of the Wooden Bike project

The Seat Post Assembly

The Seat post takes quite a lot of load and also forms the junction between the front and rear triangles of a bike frame so its important that its stiff and strong.

Here it is just before glue up, note the solid block at the bottom which will mostly be drilled away for the bottom bracket and also the aluminium insert for the seat post.

Steering Head

Another high stress area so its really important to tie this well into the tubes and provide plenty of glue surface. The centre is yet to be drilled for the headset tube and bearings.

Glueing up the main triangle

Lots of tricky joints here and also absolutely critical to keep it all straight and not twisted in any way. West System epoxy was used for all of the bonding required.

Glue up is always a stressful time as lots of steps and joints to get just right and then all clamped up conscious of the limited working time for the adhesive.
